Introducing the AntiSocial Marketer: Hi, that’s me.
Hi. I’m the AntiSocial Marketer
I started the AntiSocial Marketer because, as a Marketer, I was always sort of terrible at selling myself. My personal brand is very much: talking about myself makes me sort of uncomfortable, can’t I just uhm show you?
I always knew that I was missing that thing that you see all over LinkedIn, that Peloton-instructor-I-am-the-sales-pitch-energy. And for a while, I felt really bad about myself for not having it.
For those to whom expressing thoughts doesn't come naturally, it’s a delicate battle of collecting them and piecing them together before speaking and getting them out before the conversation changes direction.
I persevered, leading projects, building campaigns, launching brand activations, and mentoring interns. I listened to a manager who said “I want you to show off more” and shrunk myself back down when he told me “your communication style is too direct.” I watched endless Ted Talks, tried an improv class, asked friends to write down their opinions of me, and spoke to a therapist.
Eventually, I accepted that trying to be someone I wasn’t wasn’t sustainable. Enter the AntiSocial Marketer, a place where I get to carve out my own version of what being a marketer looks like.
